The motorway interchange Neu-Ulm is a crossroads of the local area highway-like -developed highways 28 and 30 represent.

The Neu-Ulm motorway triangle was originally planned as the Wiblingen motorway junction and as such was under construction from 1978 to 1981.

history

Although these are federal highways , they meet at a motorway triangle and are signposted as a motorway . This is unique in Germany. The reason for this can be found in history. The federal highway 30 was already in 1976 as federal highway 89 , today's federal highway 28 between Ulm and Hittistetten was intended as federal highway 80 and was completed in 1977. From 1978 the Wiblingen motorway junction was built.

The Federal Transport Infrastructure Plan 1980 stipulated that 7,000 planned kilometers of motorway should be canceled or replaced by federal road planning. Without further ado, the federal highway 80 between Ulm and Hittistetten was renamed the federal highway 28. The started construction of the federal highway 89 was continued as a highway-like new building of the federal highway 30. Since it was also clear that the Federal Motorway 89 would no longer continue from Ulm to Günzburg , the Wiblingen motorway junction was renamed the Neu-Ulm motorway triangle and only the most necessary entrances and exits were completed.

Over the years, further construction of the B 30 in a northerly direction was considered to complete the cross. However, the city of Neu-Ulm initially decided to expand the inner-city European route. In the Federal Transport Infrastructure Plan 2030 , a northern extension is planned, which should serve to relieve the Neu-Ulm Europastraße. It would most likely meet the B10 at the junction towards Finningen.
