history
middle Ages
In 915 the place Ginga was mentioned for the first time in a deed of donation from Queen Kunigunde, wife of King Konrad I of Eastern Franconia, for Lorsch Monastery . Archaeological finds from the late Iron Age (so-called Viereckschanze) prove a settlement in prehistoric times. Further finds come from the Roman period ( consecration stones ) and the Merovingian period (row graves). Presumably the location at the exit of the Swabian Alb, where the Filstal widens and offers extensive arable land, played an essential role.
The Hohenstaufen King Konrad III. acquired the village of Gingen, located in its core area, from the Lorsch Monastery in 1147, while the church and all of its assets remained in the hands of the monastery and passed to the Archdiocese of Mainz in 1232 . Since about 1300, after the Hohenstaufen dynasty died out, the place was owned by the Counts of Helfenstein . In 1403 Gingen came into the possession of the Free Imperial City of Ulm . In the Thirty Years War Gingen was devastated by passing imperial troops.
Modern times
As a result of the mediatization due to the Reichsdeputationshauptschluss , Gingen initially became Bavarian in 1803, but fell to the Kingdom of Württemberg in 1810 as part of an exchange of territory as a result of the Paris Treaty .
Latest time
After the end of the Second World War , the farms became less and less important, as the " economic miracle " years brought an economic structural change . The old country roads were gradually paved and a new school and later even a sports hall, the Hohensteinhalle, were built. In the 1980s, the community expanded to include new residential areas and small industrial districts also emerged, which are growing more and more.
religion
The Free Imperial City of Ulm initiated the Reformation in its area - and thus also in Gingen - in 1531 . Since then, the place has been predominantly evangelical .
There has also been a Catholic church since 1965.

The closest secondary schools and high schools are in Süßen (3 km), Geislingen ad Steige (5–6 km) and Donzdorf (8 km). For the smallest residents, the community provides two childcare facilities: the Sonnenschein daycare center with crèche and the St. Barbara kindergarten . A new building for the Hohenstein daycare center will replace the formerly Catholic St. Barbara kindergarten from 2018 . There is also a Protestant kindergarten.
Buildings
Evangelical St. John's Church
Late Gothic building with a choir from 1463 and a flat-roofed nave from 1512.
An inscription dated February 1st, 984 above the north gate; it is the oldest dated church inscription in Germany (according to the Dionysian calendar ).
During the renovation in 1964-66, the whitewashed wall paintings in the choir (1487) and above the choir arch were discovered. This monumental picture of the Last Judgment from 1524, which was donated by Obervogt Eitel Sigmund von Berg and his wife Ursula von Speth, is probably attributable to the Catholic Ulm artist Martin Schaffner . There are many indications that it should warn against converting to Protestantism; For example, nobles (nobles, bishops) can only be found among the blessed and none among the damned.
town hall
The modern Gingen town hall with library, which is centrally located in Gingen and is the meeting point of the community, is another attraction, as various art and cultural objects can often be seen there in changing exhibitions.
