history

Until the 19th century

Aichelberg was already a settlement in ancient times . In November 2012, during excavations in advance of the construction work on the route of the new Wendlingen-Ulm line on the Autobahn 8, a Roman brick distillery and shards of tableware from the 3rd century were found.

Around 1220 a castle was built by the Counts of Aichelberg . In 1330 the castle and village of Aichelberg passed to the Counts of Kirchheim . In 1334, Aichelberg came to the House of Württemberg under Count Ulrich III through the sale of the property of the Counts of Aichelberg . In the 15th century the so-called Zeller Stab, to which Aichelberg belonged, was created. In 1519 Aichelberg was almost completely destroyed by soldiers of the Swabian Federation . 13 houses were burned down. In 1525, during the Peasants' War , the castle was burned down. In 1628 the plague broke out in Aichelberg.

In 1810 Aichelberg came to the Oberamt Kirchheim unter Teck . On May 19, 1876, Aichelberg became an independent municipality.

District affiliation

In the course of the district reform of 1938 , Aichelberg came to the district of Göppingen

coat of arms

Poor Aichelberg Göppingen.svg

The blazon of the municipal coat of arms of Aichelberg reads: Three (2: 1) rising silver acorns in red over a silver three mountain .

White and red are the colors of the Counts of Aichelberg. In 1949 a green acorn on a silver background represented the community. To differentiate between the then eponymous municipality in the Esslingen district , which is now part of Aichwald , the current ' full-talking coat of arms ' was introduced on January 25, 1958 .

religion

The Protestant residents of Aichelberg belong to the Evangelical Church Community of Zell-Aichelberg , which includes the communities of Zell unter Aichelberg and Aichelberg and since January 1, 1976 belongs to the church district of Göppingen , before that to the church district of Kirchheim unter Teck .

Economy and Infrastructure

traffic

Not far from the community of Aichelberg runs the federal highway 8 with the junction Aichelberg. The slope of the Aichelberg was already used during the construction of the autobahn in the Third Reich for the Alb ascent , the overcoming of the approximately 380 meters of altitude of the northern Albrand, which is also called Albtrauf . The Aichelberg lies in front of a now dry valley that cuts into the Alb. The valley floor is about halfway up between the foreland and the plateau. The ascent could thus be divided into two parts, the Aichelberg and the Drackensteiner slope .

The ascent next to the Aichelberg was originally made by a long, curved bridge, the Aichelberg Viaduct . When the line was expanded between 1985 and 1990, this bridge was completely removed and replaced by a three-lane ascent in a cut with a short tunnel, the green bridge , which was preserved as a deer crossing. The expansion gave the community of Aichelberg the largest motorway construction site in Europe for several years.

The construction site for the new Wendlingen – Ulm line is right next to the motorway . The entrance portal of the Boßler tunnel is expected to be built there by 2019 .

From Aichelberg country roads lead to the neighboring communities Bad Boll , Zell and others , Holzmaden and the city of Weilheim . A bus line connects Aichelberg u. a. with Göppingen and Weilheim

education

There is a kindergarten in Aichelberg, but no school. Aichelberg primary school students go to primary school in the neighboring community of Zell unter Aichelberg .

Culture and sights

The Evangelical Christ Church was built in 1959 by the Reutlingen architect Manfred Wizgall (1914–1974). It stands out above all for its beautiful stained glass windows with their strong colors. The windows were designed by the artist Martin Domke (1911–2005), who lives in Hepsisau . The bottom right of the south wall shows the birth, suffering and grave of Jesus from back to front, where the angel points the women to the risen one on the front wall. At the top left on the north wall then Christ, the risen one, who sends out the twelve apostles. And the image proclamation in the altar window to the east shows Christ as ruler of the world and as judge of the accepted and the damned, as blessing and inviting redeemer of those who hear the call of the revelation trumpets. The bronze cross, the candlesticks and the baptismal font were also created by Martin Domke.

There is a Luther oak near the Alte Steige street .
