history
Community merger
Lauterstein was formed as part of the municipality reform in Baden-Württemberg on January 1, 1974 by the union of the municipality of Nenningen and the city of Weißenstein.
History of Nenningen
Since the late Middle Ages, Nenningen has been under the Rechberg family and was part of the Weißenstein lordship . As a result of mediatization, the district on the right of the Lauter came to the Kingdom of Württemberg in 1806 and was assigned to the municipality of Degenfeld in the Oberamt Gmünd until 1810 . The district to the left of the Lauter was first part of the Kingdom of Bavaria in 1806 and only fell to Württemberg in 1810 as part of an area swap. Since 1810 the reunified Nenningen belonged to the Oberamt Geislingen . During the administrative reform during the Nazi era in Württemberg , Nenningen came to the district of Göppingen in 1938.
History of Weißenstein
Like Nenningen, Weißenstein was part of the Weißenstein rule in the possession of changing lines of the Lords of Rechberg. In the course of the 14th century Weißenstein received city rights. Through mediatization, Weißenstein became part of the Kingdom of Bavaria in 1806 and finally to the Kingdom of Württemberg in 1810. Since then Weißenstein has been subordinate to the Oberamt Geislingen. The administrative reform of April 25, 1938 led to membership in the district of Göppingen.
After the Second World War, Nenningen and Weißenstein became part of the American zone of occupation and thus belonged to the newly founded state of Württemberg-Baden , which was incorporated into the current state of Baden-Württemberg in 1952.
