Schlierbach is a municipality in the Göppingen district in Baden-Württemberg in the Stuttgart region. It belongs to the Stuttgart region (until 1992 the Middle Neckar region ) and the peripheral zone of the European metropolitan region of Stuttgart .

Geographical location
The municipality of Schlierbach is located in the foothills of the central Swabian Alb , as the crow flies about 11 km west-southwest of the district town of Göppingen and about 28 km east -south- east of the state capital Stuttgart . The 311 m above sea level. NN at its outlet up to about 390 m above sea level. NN uplifting municipality drains over the Schlierbach and other upper reaches of the Talbach northwest towards Fils .

The only place in the municipality is the eponymous village Schlierbach. The abandoned villages of Bolzhausen and Brühlmannshof are in the area.
Neighboring communities
Schlierbach borders in turn in the north-northwest on the city of Ebersbach an der Fils , in the northeast on the municipality of Albershausen and in the southeast on the municipality of Hattenhofen , all three of which belong to their own district of Göppingen . In contrast, the municipality of Ohmden is in the south, the town of Kirchheim unter Teck in the southwest and the municipality of Notzingen in the west in the Esslingen district .

history
Early history
The traces of the first human settlement on Schlierbacher Markung lead back to the period from 800 to 450 BC. BC back. The Celts were followed by the Romans around the birth of Christ , who in turn were ousted by the Alemanni in the 3rd century . These came under Frankish rule from the 8th century . Developed in the more recent expansion period between the 9th and 12th centuries, the place belonged to the dukes of Teck in the 13th century .
In 1275 Schlierbach is mentioned for the first time in the liber decimationis , a tax register. With the acquisition of Teck by Count Ulrich in 1381, Schlierbach became part of Württemberg . In 1485 Schlierbach came from the Oberamt Kirchheim to the Oberamt Göppingen and has been part of the Göppingen district since 1938 .

The local council in Schlierbach has 14 members. The local elections on May 26, 2019 led to the following final result. The municipal council consists of the elected voluntary councilors and the mayor as chairman. The mayor is entitled to vote in the municipal council.

In September 2010 Paul Schmid was re-elected for a fourth term. On June 10, 2018, Sascha Krötz was elected as the new mayor in the first ballot with 61.99% of the vote.
coat of arms
The partially speaking coat of arms consists of a yellow shield head with a black stag pole , underneath two yellow wavy bars in blue. The wave beams stand for the Schlierbach, which gives the place its name. The stag bar indicates that it was part of Württemberg . The coat of arms was awarded by the state government on January 21, 1948, the yellow-blue flag by the Ministry of the Interior on December 18, 1958.
