history

Ohmden 1683/1685 in Kieser's forest inventory book

Ohmden is first mentioned under the name Amindon in 1125 in the Rotulus San Petrinus , a parchment scroll of the St. Peter monastery in the Black Forest . It describes a barter in which Duke Konrad von Zähringen transferred the place to the monastery. Eventually the village fell to the Adelberg monastery . Ecclesiastically it belonged to Kirchheim unter Teck . The row graves in the local area indicate that Ohmden is a settlement from the Merovingian period .

The place name Ohmden is derived from the Old High German expression âmat and denotes the Öhmd , the second cut of grass. It had numerous variants in the course of history, for example Amindon, Ameden, Aymden, Ombden .

Since 1938 Ohmden belonged to the district of Nürtingen , with which it opened in 1973 in the district of Esslingen .

coat of arms

The coat of arms of Ohmdens shows in black a six-pointed star under a horseshoe on a yellow shield. Little is known about the origin. The horseshoe symbol could indicate the presumably high number of horses in the area. The interpretation is supported by the fact that after the Nördlinger battle in 1634 125 horses were requisitioned from the community, an enormous number for the size of the town at the time. What is certain is that the star was only introduced to distinguish it from other local coats of arms with a horseshoe symbol, which kept recurring in Württemberg, and has no historical significance.

While a seal from 1765 still shows a deer pole over an "O", a seal from 1800 shows the horseshoe symbol, still without a star. The current coat of arms was awarded on December 11, 1973 by the Ministry of the Interior.
