About this picture

Oberboihingen is a municipality in the Esslingen district in Baden-Württemberg . It belongs to the Stuttgart region (until 1992 the Middle Neckar region ) and the European metropolitan region of Stuttgart .

geography

Geographical location

In terms of natural space , the municipality of Oberboihingen lies on the border of the foreland of the Middle Swabian Alb to the lower area of the Nürtinger-Esslinger Neckar Valley of the Filderplatte bordering across the Neckar River . The eponymous village, bordering the right bank of the upper Neckar, follows the small side valley of the Talbach up into the area of the edge hills. It is located about three kilometers northeast of Nürtingen and about eleven kilometers south-southeast of the district town of Esslingen am Neckar . The place is also traversed by the Heuspenbächle, which flows into the Marbach at the edge of the village , which flows into the river at the beginning of the development in the Neckaraue. The north-eastern municipality boundary runs along the course of the Benzenfurt brook , which also flows into the Neckar below the local area.

Community structure

In addition to the village of Oberboihingen, the Tachenhausen estate also belongs to the community, which lies to the east of it on the right edge of the Talbach hill.

Tachenhausen Estate

Almost on the valley floor below the manor, spatially somewhat separated from the closed local area, there is still the monastery settlement, which also belongs to the community.

Neighboring communities

Adjacent communities are in turn the cities of Wendlingen am Neckar in the northeast, Kirchheim unter Teck and an uninhabited small exclave of Wendlingen in the east, Nürtingen in the south and southwest and the municipality of Unterensingen on the other side of the Neckar in the northwest, all also in their own district of Esslingen .

history

Early history

It has not yet been clarified whether Oberboihingen was an independent foundation or a spin-off from Unterboihingen . The first documentary mentions refer to the Lords of Boihingen ( de Buggingen ), who donated land to the Hirsau and Salem monasteries in the 12th and 13th centuries . Eberhard de Buggingen and his brothers Erkinbertus and Bertholdus are mentioned in the Codex Hirsaugiensis at the beginning of the 12th century . The place itself appears for the first time in 1229 as bogingin in the documents. Originally, Boihingen was subordinate to the Dukes of Teck , who ceded the area around Nürtingen and thus Boihingen to the Counts of Württemberg in 1299. A division into Ober- and Unterboihingen has been documented since 1357.

Oberboihingen 1683, forest inventory book by Andreas Kieser

Shortly before the beginning of the Thirty Years' War Oberboihingen had about 355 inhabitants, after the war about 125 people lived in the village. It was not until 1703 that the population of 333 had reached the pre-war level again.

20th century

On April 22, 1945 soldiers of the 103rd American Infantry Division occupied the city of Nürtingen from Oberboihingen. The day before, French troops had taken over dominance on the other side of the Neckar in Oberensingen . From 1938 on, Oberboihingen was part of the Nürtingen district . During the Second World War , an air mine was dropped on the level crossing in Nürtinger Strasse on November 26, 1944. In 1973 it opened up in the Esslingen district.

Tachenhausen

Tachenhausen 1683 in the Kieser forest inventory book

Tachenhausen was initially a castle with a small village. It was built in the middle of the 13th century south of today's Hofgut. In 1394 a pilgrimage chapel was built below the castle, which had already fallen into disrepair. After 1460, the people of Nürtingen built a small hospital next to it. In 1538 both the church and the monastery building were largely demolished. When Andreas Kieser drew his forest inventory book , it was only possible to roughly identify where the pen was once located.

Religions

Oberboihingen has been evangelical since the Reformation . The approx. 2,550 followers of this denomination have their own parish, whose service is celebrated in the Bartholomäuskirche. Cooperation with the neighboring parishes of Reudern and Zizishausen will be sought or unavoidable within the framework of upcoming church personnel- saving measures ( 2011 parish plan ) of the Evangelical Church in Württemberg .

As in many areas of Pietist Württemberg, there was no longer a Roman Catholic parish in Oberboihingen after the Reformation. It was not until after the Second World War that the number of followers of this religious denomination also increased noticeably in Oberboihingen, above all due to the influx of people who had been expelled from the former German eastern regions. Since 1964, the Catholics in Oberboihingen have had their own house of worship with the Trinity Church. Organizationally, however, they are subordinate to the parish of St. Columban from Unterboihingen , to which the church members from Wendlingen also belong and which has been combined with the parish Unterensingen- Köngen since 2001 to form a pastoral care unit.

There is also a New Apostolic parish which also has its own church in Oberboihingen.

Tachenhäuser Hof teaching and experimental garden

In the past Oberboihingen was mainly characterized by agriculture. Up until the 1960s, sheep farming was particularly important for the community. Nowadays, besides a number of industrial and commercial enterprises, handicraft businesses in particular play a major role in Oberboihingen's economy. The largest employers today are the automotive supplier BorgWarner formerly Wahler (takeover April 1, 2014) and the company Vogel Antriebstechnik and Riempp Electronics.

The Tachenhäuser Hof is located in the Oberboihingen district, but the owner is the city of Nürtingen. Today the Hofgut is used by the Nürtingen-Geislingen University of Economics and Environment as an agricultural teaching and testing facility. The very well-kept gardens invite you to take a walk. In recent years, controversial release experiments with u. a. genetically modified sugar beet and maize instead, but these were discontinued in 2008 after a field was occupied.

It is about 15 to 20 minutes via the A 8 to Stuttgart Airport .

In terms of traffic, the Neckar does not play a role for Oberboihingen. It is only from Plochingen, approx. 10 km downstream, that it has been expanded into an inland waterway canal and from there it is used by cargo ships to transport goods.

To the left of the Neckar, the Neckar Valley Cycle Path runs along the village.

An almost 12 km long circular hiking trail around Oberboihingen invites you to discover the Oberboihingen district and enjoy some delightful views. An information stand has been set up on the sports ground, where hikers can use a map to get an overview of the circular route and find out about the development of the community.
