history
Prehistory and Antiquity
Settlement remains from the Neolithic Age (2300 BC) have been found in the area around Neckartenzlingen , south of the village of grave mounds from the Hallstatt period . At the beginning of the 20th century, a paved piece of Roman road (from Rottenburg to Cannstatt) was excavated.
middle Ages
Presumably around 500 AD the Alemanni founded the place, row graves were found in the eastern part of the place.
The first written mention of Neckartenzlingen comes from a donation book of the Hirsau Monastery ( Codex Hirsaugiensis ), which lists the monastery's foundations and acquisitions. In this document, the name Tuntzlingen appears for the first time around 1080. In the 12th century, the Lords of Tenzlingen presumably built a castle above the old Neckar mill on the left side of the Neckar.
At the end of the High Middle Ages, Neckartenzlingen and the county of Urach came under the sovereignty of Württemberg . Until about 1484 the place was subordinate to the office Grötzingen, then the office Nürtingen.
Modern times
In 1534 the Reformation was carried out under Duke Ulrich . When the Kingdom of Württemberg was reorganized at the beginning of the 19th century, Neckartenzlingen remained assigned to the Oberamt Nürtingen .
In the 19th century Neckartenzlingen was a center of sandstone mining, with more than 20 quarries in which the prized white Neckartenzlingen sandstone was extracted. This was widely processed into high-quality millstones or whetstones, but it was also used in the construction industry. At the Cologne Cathedral and the Ulm Cathedral Neckartenzlinger sandstones were also processed.
The administrative reform during the Nazi era in Württemberg led to membership in the Nürtingen district in 1938 . In 1945 the place became part of the American zone of occupation and thus belonged to the newly founded state of Württemberg-Baden , which was incorporated into the current state of Baden-Württemberg in 1952. Due to the district reform in Baden-Württemberg , Neckartenzlingen became part of the Esslingen district in 1973 .
Hammetweil
Hammetweil Castle was first mentioned in a document as Nohmuotwiler in 1266 . It changed hands frequently in the first few centuries; since 1543 the manor that arose from the castle has belonged to the Württemberg barons Thumb von Neuburg .
Religions
Although Neckartenzlingen has been evangelical since the Reformation , there is also a Roman Catholic and a New Apostolic congregation today .
