Komló [ ˈkomloː ] ( German Kumlau , Croatian Komlov ) is a medium-sized city in the south of Hungary in the Transdanubian county of Baranya . It lies in a valley on the northeastern edge of the Mecsek Mountains and has about 29,000 inhabitants.

It is made up of the former villages of Komló, Mecsekjánosi and Mecsekfalu (previously Szopok).

The town became economically important in the 19th century due to the coal mining on the edge of the mountains, which now hardly plays a role. In addition to a broom factory and other SMEs , a carpet weaving mill and Komló-Habilitas Kft. Should be mentioned.

The city is located in a green hilly landscape on the Mecsek, the eastern part of which is a nature reserve , and has several municipal sports and recreation facilities. On the outskirts there is a Sikondafürdö adventure pool , which is fed with thermal water and to which a wellness hotel is attached. About 20 km away is the lake of Orfű .

The church in the nearby village of Mánfa from the 12th century is of cultural interest . The municipality also organizes the Komló Culture Days in the 1st week of September and a competition for children's choirs every 2 years .

The 1956 Hungarian uprising was strongly supported in Komló, as well as in Pécs and Veszprém .
