Orfű is a Hungarian community in the district of Pécs in Baranya .
history
The place was first mentioned in 1332 in the form of Orfew . During the Wars of Liberation, the village lost its inhabitants and was only settled again by German and Hungarian families at the beginning of the 19th century. In the 1970s, three artificial lakes were created in the area.
structure
The municipality is divided into 5 districts ( Orfű, Mecsekrákos, Bános, Mecsekszakál, Tekeres ).
location
Orfű is located 15 kilometers north of the city of Pécs in a scenic valley of the Mecsek Mountains. About 5 kilometers away, in Abaliget , there is a stalactite cave . The Magyarhertelend thermal baths, newly built in 2012, are in the immediate vicinity.
Leisure and Tourism
The municipality of Orfű is located on three man-made lakes ( Orfűi-tó or Kis-tó, Pécsitó and Herman-Ottó-tó ). While the first two lakes are suitable for swimming and sailing, the Herman-Ottó -tó is a nature reserve where only fishing is allowed. There is a sailing club at Pécsi-to and the Orfű Aquapark was opened at the end of August 2010. In the summer months you can use a variety of water sports (canoeing, water cannons, sailing) around the large lake. There is also a fishing village ( Horgászfalu ). There are also numerous holiday homes and pensions as well as two riding stables. From the lookout tower ( Kiláto ) located on a hill you can see over the whole valley with the lakes.
traffic
The leisure area around Orfű can be reached from the city of Pécs on winding roads through the western Mecsek Mountains. There is no rail connection. But there are regular buses from Pecs. Since December 2010 there is a cycle path connection from Pécs to Orfü.
Attractions
In the village you can visit a mill museum ( Orfűi Malommúzeum ), which was expanded in 2016 with a paper mill, a water mill and a visitor center.
