Kővágótöttös (formerly Töttös ) is a Hungarian community in the district of Pécs in Baranya . The district of Tortyogó-vízmtelep, located to the south, belongs to the municipality.

Geographical location

Kővágótöttös is ten kilometers northwest of the city of Pécs . The neighboring communities are Bakonya and Kővágószőlős .

history

The place was first mentioned in writing in the 14th century. In 1752 there were 50 houses and three water mills in the village. In the 19th century, two villages were formed, Kistöttös on the left side of the small river valley and Nagytöttös on the right. There was a school in town since 1850. In 1930 Kővágótöttös had 501 residents. From 1964 to 2000, uranium ore was mined in the area. The primary school was closed in 2003 due to the falling population.

economy

Kővágótöttös is characterized by agriculture, viticulture plays an important role. In 1964 the mining of uranium ore began in the municipality, the first mine with a shaft depth of 1090 meters was built in the area of ​​the former settlement Petőczpuszta. Two more mines followed in 1975 and 1981. All mines were closed in 2000. In the Tortyogó district there is a waterworks that supplies part of the city of Pécs with water.

Kővágótöttös can only be reached via the secondary road no. 66135, to the east of the village is the road no. 6605. The nearest train station is seven kilometers southeast in Mecsekalja-Cserkút.
