Zengővárkony [ ˈzɛŋɡøːvaːrkoɲ ] ( German Warkon, Croatian Vakonja ) is a municipality in the small area of Pécsvárad , which is in Baranya County in southern Hungary . The municipality is located three kilometers north of the city of Pécsvárad .
There is a castle ( Vár ) and a baroque church from 1787. The village has about 400 inhabitants and is located on the slope of the Zengő Mountain , about 22 km from Pécs .
A landscape protection area has been set up in the nearby Mecsek Mountains in recent years . In the vicinity of the place the traces of a 5000 year old town from the Stone Age were uncovered.
The place also houses the memorial room of the art philosopher Lajos Fülep in the rectory , a local history museum , which was built in 1858 as the house of a wealthy farmer with a weaving mill , an egg museum as well as the cultural and historical collection of the Szalmakincstár Museum and the grave of Pál Rockenbauer .
