Stain mark

Stain marks are signs that were used to identify stains . They are predecessors of municipal coats of arms and often appear in these or in seals .

The spots were used, among other things, as markings on boundary stones to indicate the town on the respective side of the border.

Different symbols were used as spots, which also appear as common figures in coats of arms. Examples are six , ploughshare , orb , horseshoe , wall anchor or wolf rod . example
