Bissingen an der Teck is a municipality in the Esslingen district . It belongs to the Stuttgart region (until 1992 the Middle Neckar region ) and the peripheral zone of the European metropolitan region of Stuttgart . Bissingen is part of the Swabian Alb biosphere area with a large part of its area (73.5%) .

Bissingen itself lies at the foot of the Swabian Alb , the district of Ochsenwang on the Alb plateau. The municipality extends over an altitude of 384 m on the border with Nabern to 830 m in Brucker Hölzle, which is also the highest point in the Stuttgart administrative region.

history

Early history

As one of the first places in the Esslingen district, Bissingen is mentioned in a document in 769 in the written records of the Lorsch Codex . From the 11th century to the middle of the 12th century, Bissingen belonged to the Zähring family , then to the dukes of Teck . The place came to Württemberg in 1326 with the acquisition of the Austrian half of the Teck rule.

Administrative history

Bissingen belonged to the Oberamt Kirchheim , which went up in 1938 in the Nürtingen district . In the course of the district reform in 1973, Bissingen came to the Esslingen district .

Incorporations

Ochsenwang On January 1st, 1975 Ochsenwang was incorporated into Bissingen.

Municipal council

In Bissingen, the municipal council is elected using the method of false suburbs . The number of local councils can change due to overhang mandates . The municipal council in Bissingen has 15 members after the last election (2014: 14). The local election on May 26, 2019 led to the following official final result. The municipal council consists of the elected voluntary councilors and the mayor as chairman. The mayor is entitled to vote in the municipal council.

In January 2011, the previous municipal treasurer Marcel Musolf was elected to succeed Wolfgang Kümmerle with 96% of the votes in the first ballot. Musolf was confirmed in office in January 2019 with 99.1% of the vote.

Since 1911, the municipality has been running the silver Teckturm on a green, wooded mountain as the local coat of arms in several different representations in the red shield. The municipality flag is white-red (silver-red). The coat of arms in its current form and the flag were awarded in 1975 by the Ministry of the Interior.

Buildings

The Hahnenkamm castle ruins, southeast of Bissingen, were a satellite castle of the Teck.

The late Gothic St. Mary's Church (mentioned for the first time in 1275) houses a stone altar from 1542 with a richly decorated, baroque altar grille. The organ built by Johann Viktor Gruol in 1824 is a special gem .

music

Bissingen has a music association for brass music, divided into youth and regular bands. The “ Farrenstall ” at Pfarrstrasse 16 serves as its headquarters. On May 21, 2006, the music association won the state championship in the upper level at the regional music festival in Villingen-Schwenningen and vice federal champion in the upper level in May 2007 at the national competition in Würzburg. On May 16, 2010, at the 2010 Landesmusikfest in Metzingen, the title of "Upper State Champion" was successfully defended.

In addition to the aforementioned musical community, Bissingen also has a choral society. The MGV (male choir) is divided into a children's choir (the “Kibize”), a mixed choir (“Fresh Wind”) and a male choir.

Orchards as a defining landscape

Bissingen is located in the midst of extensive orchards . In order to maintain these biotopes, the Bissingen Fruit and Horticultural Association is committed to maintaining old trees to ensure that the landscape and varieties are preserved for future generations. This is done, among other things, by looking after the community's own orchards and setting up an old variety mother garden.

Natural monuments

The Randecker Maar in the district of Ochsenwang is a former volcanic vent of the Swabian volcano, which also created the conditions for the formation of the adjacent Schopfloch Moors .
