Robert von Gaupp

Conrad Ernst Robert Gaupp , von Gaupp since 1883 , (born July 14, 1836 in Bissingen an der Teck , † August 30, 1908 in Stuttgart ) was a state councilor and member of the state parliament of Württemberg.

life and work

Robert Gaupp was the son of a Protestant pastor. He attended the Latin school in Kirchheim unter Teck for 3 years , then the Protestant seminar in Urach . From 1854 to 1858 he studied criminal sciences in Tübingen . In 1858 he passed the first and in 1859 the second higher service examination. He had been a member of the Germania Tübingen fraternity since 1855 .

In 1860 Gaupp became secretary and assistant to the president at the Central Office for Trade and Industry in Stuttgart. In 1862 and 1863 he was an envoy to the World's Fair in London. From 1863 to 1866 he was employed several times as an actuary and senior administrator at the Oberamt Kirchheim . In 1866 he moved to the government of the Danube District in Ulm as a collegiate assistant , temporarily he was also civil commissioner and federal superior at the Hechingen Oberamt after the Hohenzollern principalities were taken over by the German Confederation. From 1866 to 1870 he was a government assessor and lecturer in economics and law at the Hohenheim Academy with a seat and vote in the teachers' convention. From 1870 to 1877 he headed the Oberamt Neuenbürg as senior magistrate . After two years as a councilor in the government of the Neckar District in Ludwigsburg, he worked from 1878 to 1882 as a consultant for trade and commerce and for agriculture at the Ministry of the Interior in Stuttgart. In 1882 he was appointed director of the Central Office for Trade and Industry. He held this position until 1904. In 1884 he was promoted to collegiate director and in 1885 to real director. In 1893 he received the title of President and in 1900 he was appointed to the State Council. In 1903 he received the honorary title of excellence before retiring in 1904.

In 1893 Gaupp was sent to the first chamber of the Württemberg state parliament as a lifelong member . He held this mandate until 1899. Then he asked for his release from the state parliament for health reasons.

Robert von Gaupp was the board member and later honorary board member of the Württemberg arts and crafts association. In addition, until 1903 he was a board member of the Commercial Expert Association for Württemberg, Baden and Hesse. He founded the Württemberg State Trade Museum in Stuttgart and was also its first director.
