Altdorf is a municipality in the Esslingen district in Baden-Württemberg . It belongs to the Stuttgart region (until 1992 the Middle Neckar region ) and the European metropolitan region of Stuttgart .

Geographical location
Altdorf is located about one and a half kilometers southeast of the upper Neckar in the foothills of the Swabian Alb , as the crow flies it is about six kilometers southwest of Nürtingen . Most of the municipal area drains via the Autmut to the Neckar.

Apart from the village of Altdorf, no other places belong to the municipality of Altdorf.
Neighboring communities
Neighboring communities are Neckartailfingen in the north, Nürtingen with the Raidwangen district only briefly in the northeast, Großbettlingen in the east, Bempflingen in the south and Neckartenzlingen in the west. All are also in the Esslingen district.

history
Early history
Altdorf was first mentioned in a document in 1291. A Friedrich von Altdorf appeared on June 19, 1291 as a witness in a document from Johann von Wurmlingen. The name Altdorf probably goes back to the Alemannic Allachdorf , which referred to a settlement. From various finds it can be deduced that people have lived here for four thousand years.

Altdorf belongs to the Neckartenzlingen municipal administration association.
Municipal council
The town council in Altdorf has 10 members. The turnout in the local elections on May 26, 2019 was 73.1% (2014: 62.69%) and resulted in the following distribution of seats:

The independent Joachim Kälberer has been mayor of Altdorf since 1988. His third term of office, for which he was elected in 2004 with 90.3% of the vote, ended in 2012. The turnout for the 2004 mayoral election was 54.6%. On January 29, 2012, Joachim Kälberer was confirmed in office for a further eight years. The approval rate was 97.6% with a turnout of 49.9%.

Economy and Infrastructure
Public facilities
In 2008 the municipality of Altdorf built a water treading basin at the old water house for general use.
education
Altdorf has its own elementary school and daycare center . Secondary schools, Werkrealschule, Realschule and Gymnasium are located in the neighboring municipality of Neckartenzlingen . Since the inauguration of the new extension in spring 2012, the day-care center has provided space for 75 children between the ages of one and six.
Waste disposal
The waste management company of the Esslingen district is responsible for waste disposal. There are separate collections for organic waste , household waste and paper. As part of the Green Dot, packaging is collected in so-called yellow bags . Bulky waste can be picked up free of charge by handing in one of two vouchers a year, or it can be taken to a disposal station. Electrical and metal scrap and other recyclable materials can also be disposed of at the disposal stations. There are special collections of problematic substances for hazardous waste such as fluorescent lamps and paint.
