Unterensingen is a municipality in the Esslingen district , 18 kilometers from the district town of Esslingen am Neckar and four kilometers from Nürtingen . It belongs to the Stuttgart region (until 1992 the Middle Neckar region ) and the European metropolitan region of Stuttgart .

Geographical location
Unterensingen is located in the natural area of Nürtinger-Esslinger Neckartal on the left and western side of the upper Neckar , as the crow flies a good 3 km north-northeast of Nürtingen and about 10 km southeast of the district town of Esslingen am Neckar . Originally they settled on the valley slope, in the last 50 years the floodplain has also been built on.
Neighboring communities
Neighboring communities are Köngen in the north, Wendlingen in the east, Oberboihingen in the southeast, Nürtingen in the south, Wolfschlugen and Neuhausen auf den Fildern in the west and Denkendorf in the north-west (all Esslingen district).

history
Ensingen was first mentioned in a document in 1124. The division into Oberensingen (now part of Nürtingen) and Unterensingen has been secured since 1358. The two Ensingen originally belonged to the domain of the Dukes of Teck and went to Württemberg in the late Middle Ages , which assigned the place to the office of Nürtingen .
From 1938 on, Unterensingen belonged to the district of Nürtingen , the successor to the Nürtingen office, which opened in 1973 in the district of Esslingen .
Religions
Unterensingen has been evangelical since the Reformation . Since the settlement of expellees after the Second World War , there have also been Catholics in the village again, who together with the believers from Köngen form a community.

Economy and Infrastructure
traffic
Unterensingen is connected to the national road network by the federal road 313 ( Plochingen - Tübingen ). The federal motorway 8 is two kilometers away and can be reached via the Wendlingen junction.
Bus line 184 operated by VVS runs to Wendlingen and Nürtingen, where there is a connection to the regional train line Stuttgart -Tübingen and in Wendlingen to the S1 from Kirchheim / Teck to Herrenberg.
Established businesses
Internationally operating medium-sized companies such as Swarco Traffic Holding , Swarco Traffic Systems GmbH (until September 1, 2010 Signalbau Huber GmbH) or Zinco GmbH are based in Unterensingen. The good connection to the B 313, the A 8 and the proximity to Stuttgart Airport make Unterensingen an attractive business location.

Unterensingen has a primary school. There are also three kindergartens in town.

Museums
In Gustav Kemmner -room in the Old Schoolhouse works are exhibited the most famous Untersinger artist.
Sports
The SKV Unterensingen was founded in 1946 and is known nationwide mainly for its handball department, which plays in the Württembergliga Süd. After the football department was dissolved in 1993, FC Unterensingen, which currently plays in the district A, was founded in the same year.
The European inline skate slalom championships take place regularly in Unterensingen.
