history

There is hardly any other community in the Ostalb district that is so little known about the history, as hardly any documents have been preserved in the archives of the knightly lords, who have changed frequently since the 17th century . The first mention in 1365 as Laubenhart was only published in 1994. In 1365 Ulrich von Rechberg zu Gröningen and his sons sold an extensive rule, but explicitly excluded the church law (the right of patronage) ze Laubenhart . Until 1531 (or 1532?) Bartholomä, who gave up his old name Laubenhart in the 16th century in favor of the name after the church saint Bartholomäus (there is a Bartholomäus market to this day), was Rechbergisch . Until 1638 the lords of Woellwarth zu Lauterburg were the local lords.

In 1638 the Ulm patrician Hans Jakob Schad bought the manor. The von Wollmershausen family came to the von Holz zu Alfdorf family , who became sole owners in 1740. In 1806 the village came to Württemberg . It belonged to the Oberamt Gmünd , which later became the district of Schwäbisch Gmünd . When it was dissolved in 1973 , Bartholomä joined the new Ostalb district .

Religions

The Evangelical Bartholomew Church
The Catholic Church

The Lords of Woellwarth introduced the Reformation in Bartholomä in 1550 . The place was initially evangelical . After the widespread depopulation caused by the Thirty Years' War , Catholics began to move into the village from the 18th century. A Catholic church was built in 1839/1840. The Protestant parish of Bartholomä belongs to the Schwäbisch Gmünd church district.

Natural monuments

A special attraction is the sea of rocks in the Wental Valley with its unusual rock formations. The Weiherwiesen nature reserve is also worth seeing, as you can experience untouched nature and complete silence here.

Rose day

Since 1987, every second year at the end of August, around 100 carters with a total of over 250 horses have met for a unique event on Rosstag. On Rosstag in Bartholomä you can marvel at marvelous draft horses, beautifully designed wagons on historical topics and on the earlier agricultural and peasant as well as craft life. The highlight of the day is the parade with the proud horse and carts in and around the municipality of Bartholomä.

Ortneckname

The Bartholomeans used to bother tying brooms a lot. They had to take their nickname “Birke-Schnalzger” because they knew how to get their birch sticks in a strange way. The Bartholomeans climbed young birch trees, hung themselves on the peaks until the branches reached the ground - then they cut off the most beautiful ones, jumped down and let the trees "click" back again.
