Wolf (also Teodore Wolf and English Wenman Island ) is the name of a small island in the north of the Galápagos Archipelago . It is only 34 kilometers south of Isla Darwin , the northernmost island of the archipelago, but 120 km from Roca Redonda , the closest island south of Wolf.
The uninhabited island owes its name to the German botanist and geologist Theodor Wolf . Numerous seal , iguana and bird species live on an area of around 1.3 km² . The island is accessible for diving excursions, particularly interesting are the large schools of hammerhead sharks , but also manta rays and sea turtles .
The very rare vampire finch ( Geospiza difficilis septentrionalis ), a species of bird that feeds primarily on the blood of other birds, is only found on Wolf and the neighboring island of Darwin . To do this, it picks up the skin of the much larger blue-footed booby , which also lives on the Galápagos, with its pointed beak.
