As a manta ray two species of the genus Teufelsrochen ( Mobula hereinafter) - the Reef Manta Ray ( Mobula alfredi ) and the Riesenmanta ( Mobula birostris ). The genus Manta , to which both species originally belonged, was synonymous with Mobula in June 2017 .

The mouth of the manta rays is very broad and terminal, that of the other devil rays is slightly below. In the manta rays only the upper jaw is toothed, in the other devil rays both jaws.
