Ellenberg is a municipality in the Ostalbkreis in Baden-Württemberg with 20 districts, most of them small residential areas . Most of the inhabitants have the main town Ellenberg and the district of Breitenbach.
The community is a member of the agreed administrative community of the city of Ellwangen (Jagst) .
geography
Geographical location
Ellenberg is located at approximately half the straight line between Stuttgart and Nürnberg on the eastern edge of Virngrunds on the southern slope back to the top of the Northeast Hornbergs . The community has a share in the natural areas of the Eastern Alb foreland and the Swabian-Franconian Forest Mountains , both of which are part of the Swabian Keuper-Lias-Land , as well as the Middle Franconian Basin , a sub-area of the Franconian Keuper-Lias-Land . The European watershed runs through Ellenberg . At the eastern end of the village, the European watershed between the Danube and the Rhine is marked with a boulder.

The village of Ellenberg, the hamlets of Althueb , Bautzenhof , Birnhäusle , Breitenbach , Eiberg , Georgenstadt , Gerhof , Häsle , Haselbach , Hintersteinbach , Kraßbronn, Muckental , Neuhueb , Rothof and Schmalenbach , the farms Schweizerhof and Zwiebelshof and the houses Dietlesmühle and Eiberger belong to Ellenberg Sägmühle , as well as the two places Huebberg and Ziegelhütte . Kraßbronn
The district of Kraßbronn has twelve houses with 38 inhabitants (as of October 2019). The village sets up a maypole and a children's maypole every year. This place also has its own festival associated with a hobby soccer tournament that is held every July. Kraßbronn is about three kilometers south of Ellenberg.

history
The community celebrated its 700th anniversary in 2000, as the first documentary mentions date back to 1300. Excavations, including in the church, suggest that settlements existed there before that. From 1806 Ellenberg belonged to the Oberamt Ellwangen . When this is resolved, the city came in 1938 County Aalen and has been part of the district reform in 1973 for Ostalbkreis .
Religions
Ellenberg is predominantly Roman Catholic . The few evangelical believers belong to the Wört parish . The parish church in Ellenberg is consecrated to the Sorrowful Mother of God . The baroque building contains a late Gothic Pietà from around 1500 as the most valuable work of art .

In the mayoral election on March 8, 2009 with no opposing candidate, Rainer Knecht was confirmed for a third term with 99.13 percent of the valid votes cast and a voter turnout of 60.85 percent.

After the 2014 local elections, the local council has 12 members.

Blazon : In gold, a black elk head growing out of the edge of the shield and turned to the left .
In 1924, the community accepted a proposal from the Stuttgart Archives Directorate. The elk head refers to the place name as a talking coat of arms .
The municipal flag awarded by the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of the Interior on July 26, 1957 is blue and yellow. This color combination, which differs from the coat of arms, was determined by the municipality in order to distinguish its flag from the national flag .
Economy and Infrastructure
education
In Ellenberg there is its own primary school with around 120 students. Secondary schools are mostly attended in Ellwangen . There is also a Roman Catholic kindergarten in the village .
