Geographical location

The municipality of Durlangen is located on a ridge north of the Leintal in the east of the Welzheimer Wald natural area , around six kilometers north of Schwäbisch Gmünd .

Neighboring communities

The municipality borders in the north on Spraitbach , in the northeast on Ruppertshofen , in the east on Täferrot , in the south on Schwäbisch Gmünd and Mutlangen and in the west on Alfdorf in the Rems-Murr district .

Community structure

The community consists of the villages Durlangen, Tanau and Zimmerbach , the hamlet Mooswiese, the farms Amandusmühle, Bruckacker, Gehau and Karrenstrietle and the houses Hummelbühl, Leinhaus, Leinmühle and Stutzenklinge.

history

Since the beginning of the 19th century, Durlangen belonged to the Gmünd Oberamt , which later became the Schwäbisch Gmünd district . When this was dissolved in the course of the district reform in 1973 , the community came to the new Ostalbkreis .

Religions

St. Cyriakus Church in Zimmerbach

The Catholic St. Cyriakus Church in Zimmerbach was built in 1853.

The Sankt Anna pilgrimage chapel is located in the Tanau district. The tower and nave date from the Romanesque period, the choir is late Gothic. The St. Anne's Chapel is the destination of many pilgrims, primarily because of the portrait of Anna herself and a Pieta from the 15th century.

The community is a member of the Swabian Forest community administration association based in Mutlangen.

Municipal council

The municipal council election on May 25, 2014 brought this result: 12 seats for the FWV.

mayor

Dieter Gerstlauer, mayor since 1994, was re-elected in January 2010 with 97.2 percent and in January 2018 with 54 percent of the valid votes.

Blazon : A silver fir tree in red on a green three-mountain.

The coat of arms refers to the abundance of forests in the Durlang district. The colors silver and red were taken from the coat of arms of the former imperial city Schwäbisch Gmünd and refer to the Gmünd patricians who owned land in the community.

The municipality flag is white and red.

On September 19, 1957, the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of the Interior awarded the municipality the coat of arms and flag that are valid today.

In Durlangen there is a primary school , the closest secondary schools, the Realschule and the Hauptschule (with Werkrealschule ) are in Mutlangen . Other secondary schools are available in Schwäbisch Gmünd .
