geography

The village of Zimmerbach is located at an altitude of approx. 500  m on the western edge of a plateau that extends north of the Lin Valley to Spraitbach . The stream of the same name rises on the eastern edge of the village and flows into the Lein after a little more than 1 km of its course in a southerly direction.

About one and a half kilometers east of the town is Durlangen, which is the main town in the municipality.

history

In the 15th century Zimmerbach was mainly owned by Gmünder patrician families, as well as the Gotteszell Monastery and the Predigerkloster . The place was the seat of court for the surrounding villages, including Durlangen and Spraitbach . In 1470 and 1573 the Gmünder Heiliggeistspital acquired goods and only then the second half of the court. Zimmerbach remained the main town and mayor's office until 1808 and later became part of the Durlangen community founded in 1815.

In 1870 the population of the place was given as 171.

Parish

In the Middle Ages Zimmerbach owned a Romanesque church in the village, this was probably a foundation of the Lorch Monastery and was one of the oldest churches in the district. On April 6, 1360 Heinrich von Rechberg von Heuchlingen sold the Zimmerbach church set to the Gotteszell monastery . On December 28, 1420, on behalf of Pope Martin V, the church of Zimmerbach was incorporated into the Gotteszell monastery. Zimmerbach initially remained the main town and parish seat for the surrounding communities, but lost its importance over time and became a branch of Spraitbach. With the parish division in 1659, Zimmerbach became an independent parish again.

Sankt-Cyriakus-Kirche Zimmerbach

After the village church became too small, the Catholic Sankt-Cyriakus-Kirche was built from local sandstone by Gottlieb Wilhelm Wepfer in the neo-Romanesque style in the years 1851-1853 and the old church was then demolished.
