The Boßler is 799.9 m above sea level. NHN high mountain in the Swabian Alb . The distinctive summit on the Albtrauf lies within the municipality of Gruibingen in the district of Göppingen .
Recreational goals
On the Boßler, at an altitude of 785 m, there is a managed house belonging to the Naturfreunde -Ortsgruppe Göppingen, the Boßlerhaus , which is a popular hiking destination alongside the Gruibinger Wiesle .
500 m west of the Naturfreundehaus, the Boßler offers a remarkable vantage point on the Albtrauf at a height of 794.7 m above sea level. NHN . The Schwäbische-Alb-Nordrand-Weg (HW 1) and the Schwäbische-Alb-Oberschwaben-Weg (HW 7) lead over this point. Even with moderate visibility, the view extends far to the west.
Traffic routes
The federal highway 8 passes the Boßler north between the junction Aichelberg and the service area Gruibingen.
The planned new railway line Wendlingen – Ulm is to pass through the mountain in the approximately 8.7 km long Boßler tunnel .
Airplane accidents
There have been frequent tragic air accidents at the Bossler. In most cases, the planes collided with the unexpectedly high mountain in poor visibility (which is not a "plane crash", but CFIT ):
- In the war years 1940 and 1945: a German Ju 88 and another military machine
- January 8, 1958: two US F-100D military jets
- August 17, 1959: a Piaggio P.149 Bundeswehr aircraft
- April 9, 1965: a US Bell "Iroquois" helicopter
- April 11, 1965: a Piper PA 22 aircraft
- June 14, 1966: a German Army jet fighter type Fiat G.91
- July 17, 1979: a Cessna F 172 H small aircraft
- September 28, 2005: Rescue helicopter Christoph 51 on an ambulance flight with good visibility
