Location of Fedderwarden in the city of Wilhelmshaven
|
Fedderwarden has been a district of Wilhelmshaven since 1972 . It is located in the northwest of the urban area and has about 2000 inhabitants.
history
In contrast to the city of Wilhelmshaven, which was only founded in the 19th century, Fedderwarden is much older and was probably settled around the birth of Christ. A first settlement bore the name "Knull" - still a street name in the old town center today - probably as a name for an elevation, a Wurt, which contains a Geest hill as its core. The community was first mentioned in documents in 1420 as "Ffedderwurden in Frisia" and the church was assigned to the Sendstuhl Jever.
Kniphausen Castle , located south-east on the outskirts of Fedderwarden, was the administrative seat of the Kniphausen rulership , which enjoyed extensive independence within the state of Oldenburg until 1854 , and to which, in addition to Fedderwarden, the neighboring villages of Sengwarden and Accum belonged. With the end of the so-called Bentinck succession dispute , the area was completely incorporated into the Grand Duchy of Oldenburg .
From 1933 to 1948 Fedderwarden was part of the large municipality of Kniphausen . After its dissolution, it belonged to the municipality of Sengwarden until it was incorporated into Wilhelmshaven on July 1, 1972.
Origin of name
Fedderwarden emerged from a rural Wurten settlement (Wurt = created embankment to protect farms and settlements from storm surges). The name means: "The living space of the Fedde clan".
Attractions
The 13th century St. Stephen's Church is well worth seeing. The entrance to St. Stephen's Church was added in 1540, the tower dates from 1875. In contrast to many other Frisian churches, the apse here is a genuine part of the structure and was not added in later years. The pieces of furniture and the church as a whole show that it was designed in different epochs and that little dates back to more recent times. Particularly noteworthy is the baptismal font by Count Anton Günther , who handed it over to the congregation in 1648, as well as the carving above the pulpit and a communion chalice from 1633.
The altarpiece by Paul Händler (1833–1903) was painted in 1888 and shows the Emmaus scene in oil on canvas . The purchase of the painting was made possible by a donation from the wealthy Bremen merchant Laurenz Heinrich Carl Melchers .
The organ of the Church of St. Stephen is already the third organ in the community. After organ building by Joachim Kayser ( Jever ) and Johann Claussen Schmid (called Schmid II, Oldenburg ), the Alfred Führer company (Wilhelmshaven) finally built an "old" new organ in 1978. The case and pipe material of the Christian Vater organ from 1711 from Wildeshausen were used and supplemented by 4 new registers and two old registers from the Schmid II organ from 1867.
Landscape protection area
The Barghauser See , located southwest of Fedderwarden, is part of the 32-hectare landscape protection area of the same name , which was designated as LSG WHV No. 87 by the city of Wilhelmshaven in 2007. The lake serves many birds as habitat and is an important hunting grounds , especially for the highly protected under European law Pond bat . The landscape protection area has been looked after by NABU- Wilhelmshaven together with the BSH and the BUND since 1990 .
Economy and Infrastructure
Power supply
Near the Federal Highway 29 (July 2020) is currently being built a substation of TenneT TSO , the u. a. Electricity from wind farms in the North Sea and the Wilhelmshaven power station is to be picked up and fed into the general distribution network via the station in Conneforde ; the plant is scheduled to go into operation in the second half of 2020.
A converter station is also planned for the NeuConnect submarine cable for high-voltage direct current transmission from or to Great Britain .
Residents
development
On December 31, 2007, the Fedderwarden district had 1,890 inhabitants. The number of inhabitants was only 0.9% below that of 10 years ago. In the years 2001–2003 in particular, the district recorded stronger population growth. Since 2004 the population has decreased slightly. No positive development can be seen in 2017 either: The number of inhabitants has decreased in moderate steps and is therefore only 1776 inhabitants.
Share of women and foreigners
The proportion of women in the district is 48.9%, which is slightly below the urban average. 1.6% of the residents of Fedderwarden are foreigners (as of 2017).
colonization
Despite many changes, Fedderwarden has retained its village character. The village center is surrounded by agricultural land. The district has a total area of 768 hectares. The population density is 2.5 inhabitants per hectare, well below the urban average.
Age
With an average age of 48.3 years, Fedderwarden is above the Wilhelmshaven average. This can be explained by the 31.3% senior citizens who live in this district, even if 16.2% of the residents are minors (slightly above the overall average).
households
The two-person households gain the upper hand here with 41.2%, the one-person households take second place with 31.0% (more than 20% below the overall average). Most residents live with their spouse in the district and 19.7% of households have one or more children, which is 5% higher than the city average.
Movement of residents
In 2017 there were significantly more deaths than births, which results in a balance of −16 inhabitants. However, the number of immigrants (151) is positive compared to the number of departures (138).
