history

The name refers to the nearby village of Fedderwarden and the Groden , on which the district was built. According to Wilhelmshaven chronicler Edgar Grundig, the name goes back to the personal name Feddo, Fedder or the family name Fedeninga . The ending warden, on the other hand, means the term Wurt or Warft . Groden are marshland reclaimed from the sea by building dykes and amelioration .

The Fedderwardergroden district was planned as a large housing estate for compulsory naval members and shipyard workers during the 1930s and was organized by the Todt organization , the u. a. the Stolberg-Aachen construction company Robert Grünzig GmbH belonged. Originally there were only a few farms in the area of today's district. Due to the Second World War , the construction was delayed, so that many houses were not completed until the 1950s and 1960s. A special feature is the use of many different apartment types and the allocation of a field for self-sufficiency to each apartment.

A magazine from Wilhelmshaven explains:

Fedderwardergroden was built up on the " green meadow ". The largest community settlement had no role models and is still unprecedented today. It was conceived in 1936 as the "New City" and built from 1939 as Fedderwardergroden. More than 60 years ago, what is now the Fedderwardergroden area experienced activities that are beyond today's imagination. In Wilhelmshaven a city for 500,000 people was built. After the war, just 50,000 of the 133,000 people lived in Wilhelmshaven, 15,000 in 3,000 apartments in Fedderwardergroden alone. The difficult post-war conditions brought the population closer together and favored social life.

F'groden today

Today the district offers a business center as well as small groups of shops within the residential areas that invite you to shop and take a leisurely stroll. In addition to kindergartens, schools, churches, play and sports facilities, the district also offers its residents a ring-shaped system of green spaces (“The Green Ring”), which also includes a medium-sized park with a small lake, the Plauentief . In addition, the district has a diverse range of restaurants, from pubs and bistros to international quality cuisine. However, there are no cultural offers such as theaters, cinemas, libraries or galleries.

F'groden is approached at numerous stops by two bus lines operated by Stadtwerke-Verkehrsgesellschaft Wilhelmshaven and has a connection to the federal motorway 29 . The Jade University , the Reinhard Nieter Hospital and the city center (and thus also the main train station ) can be reached without changing (Posener Str. - Main train station approx. 24 minutes), while commercial bus companies ensure the transport of people to the surrounding area. F'groden can therefore be regarded as having good transport links.

Trade and thus jobs are mainly in the area of trade and services. Nationally known is z. B. the mail order company Mindfactory .

In the context of the overall examination of F'groden, however, critical voices also play a role, criticizing the increasing neglect of the district and calling for the re-establishment of the police station that has been withdrawn from the district .
