The federal highway 211 (abbreviation: B 211 ) is a German federal highway in the state of Lower Saxony . It connects Brake with the A 29 near Oldenburg . In continuation of the B 211, the A 293 continues to Oldenburg.
history
This overland route connected the royal seat of Oldenburg with Ovelgönne Castle , which was built in 1514 and was the political center of the Wesermarsch from 1664 to 1859 . After rains, this path, which led through moors, was often impassable.
From 1847 the overland route between the Weserhafen Brake and the residential city of Oldenburg was expanded into a road . The clinker bricks for road construction were produced in Bockhorn in Oldenburg and transported by ship to Brake. Sand from the Weser was used as the subsoil in order to save transport costs. In 1849 the road to Oldenbrok was completed , and in 1852 the entire route to Vareler Chaussee was completed. Since 1852 a bus has also been running twice a day between Brake and Oldenburg. Due to the road construction, the economic importance of Brake increased so much that this place received city rights in 1856. This country road was elevated to Reichsstraße around 1937 , although the historic clinker roads were not suitable for high speeds and, due to the high loads, sank in parts into the swampy ground.
A bus connection between Oldenburg and Nordenham was set up on this country road in 1946 , which was taken over by the Federal Railroad in 1952 and replaced the train service between Brake and Oldenburg.
The 7.4 km long section between Mittelort and the B 212 near Brake is to be replaced by a new bypass road to be built on the basis of a planning approval decision of June 2, 2008. The first preparatory work took place in 2013. On July 9, 2009 the planning approval procedure for the construction of a southern bypass around the village of Loy (municipality of Rastede ) was opened. The groundbreaking ceremony took place on December 12, 2012 and the section was completed at the end of 2014.
