Wesermarsch

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The marshland on both sides of the Weser is referred to as the Wesermarsch or Wesermarschen in the geographical sense . The area of the Wesermarsch landscape largely coincides with that of the district of the same name. However, the landscape is larger than the district.

Natural allocation

Naturally , the Wesermarsch belongs to the main unit group Ems- and Wesermarschen (No. 61) in the Watten natural area in the Elbe-Weser triangle Jadebusen . At the upper level, it belongs as part of the marshland to the greater region of North German Lowlands .

It consists of the Osterstade , east of the Unterweser and the Land Wursten , east of the Outer Weser in the district of Cuxhaven , as well as Stedingen , Stadland and Butjadingen , west of the Weser in the district of Wesermarsch .

In the west the Wesermarsch borders on the Oldenburger Geest and the Jadebusen , in the north on the open North Sea with the mudflats Hoher Weg and Langlütjen , in the east on the Wurster Heide and the Osterholzer Geest and in the south on the Wildeshauser Geest .

history

Historically, Stadland, Butjadingen, the Land Wursten and, as part of the Osterstade, the land dignity belonged to the Frisian settlement area, the rest of the Osterstade and Stedingen to the Saxon settlement area. Immigration from the Lower Rhine during the High Middle Ages is also suspected for Stedingen .
