The federal road 77 (abbreviation: B 77 ) is a German federal road and leads from Schleswig via Rendsburg to Itzehoe .

history

origin

Today's federal highway 77 was built in 1846 as a direct connection road between the port cities of Itzehoe and Schleswig. At that time there was a steamboat connection between Hamburg and Itzehoe three times a week . This road was extended to the railway station in Elmshorn in 1847 .

With the construction of this road and the railway line from Altona to Kiel , the historic Ochsenweg lost its economic importance.

Previous routes and names

In the original numbering 1932, the 69.6 km long associated highway 77 (FVS 77) , from 1934 in National Highway 77 (R 77) renamed, the FVS 5 in Itzehoe with the BSS 76 in Schleswig. This route has remained unchanged to this day.

Replacements

In place of the previous bridge over the Kiel Canal, the four-lane Rendsburg Canal Tunnel was built under the Kiel Canal from 1957 to 1961 and the B 77 continued south of the canal as a four-lane bypass of Jevenstedt . Shortly after the village, it joins the original route.
