Course of the road
|
The federal highway 461 (abbreviation: B 461 ) is located in north-western Lower Saxony in East Frisia .
course
It begins east of the East Frisian district town of Wittmund as a junction from the B 210 and runs as a bypass road around Wittmund. North of the city, it bends in a northerly direction, after about 13 km crosses the Wittmund district of Carolinensiel and ends after about two more kilometers in the harbor of Harlesiel at the ferry terminal to the East Frisian island of Wangerooge . This makes it one of the few federal highways in Germany that is completely on the territory of a single municipality, here the city of Wittmund.
history
The B 461 began in the center of Wittmund until 2001 . With the completion of the northeast bypass road, the route was changed as described above and the old route from the city center to the connection north of the city was downgraded to a district road.
The current B 461 was run as the B 210a until the end of the 1960s.
