The federal road 424 (abbreviation: B 424 ) leads from the Schweyen border crossing to Hornbach , from where it follows the Hornbachtal all the way to the right of the stream until it reaches the A 8 on the southern outskirts of Zweibrücken . Before the motorway was built, the B 424 continued through the city to the B 10 .
Since the construction of a direct road connection from the Contwig motorway junction via the Zweibrücken airfield to Hornbach, the B 424 has lost its importance for heavy traffic.
history
The road from Strasbourg via Bitsch to Zweibrücken was declared route impériale no. 80 on December 16, 1811 . Four years later, the state borders changed due to the Congress of Vienna . The Palatinate belonged to the Kingdom of Bavaria between 1815 and 1918 and then to the Free State of Bavaria until 1945 . The Bavarian State Road No. 33 began in Einöd and led via Zweibrücken to Bitsch .
In the 1960s, this route was classified as a federal highway.
