B 209 - Bridge over the Elbe Lateral Canal with a barrage

The federal road 209 begins in the district of Nienburg / Weser between the towns of Rohrsen and Drakenburg on the B 215 and runs in a north-easterly direction past the towns of Heemsen and Anderten .

After crossing the Aller in Rethem (Aller) in the Heidekreis district , the Walsrode villages of Groß Eilstorf and Kirchboitzen are crossed before the B 209 runs through the single-lane one-way system of downtown Walsrode . This is a bottleneck in terms of traffic technology, which causes delays during rush hour.

Then Honerdingen is crossed before the B 209 in the industrial area of Bad Fallingbostel reaches junction 47 of the A 7 .

East of Soltau on the B 71 to Munster , the B 209 then leads again in a north-easterly direction to Amelinghausen and from there to Lüneburg . In Artlenburg B 209 performs on the same side channel , the bridge is combined with a barrage.

In Lauenburg B 209 crosses over the bridge over the Elbe Lauenburg the Elbe , crosses the B 5 , and eventually leads to Schwarzenbek , where the B 207 and B 404 hits.

    history

Former B 209 between Bad Fallingbostel and Soltau

Until July 1, 1989, a section between Bad Fallingbostel and Soltau, a section of today's Landstrasse 163, was dedicated as Bundesstrasse 209. However, this section has been downgraded due to the parallel route to Federal Motorway 7. In Bad Fallingbostel, the motorway feeder (at that time an independent junction) to the A 7 had the designation B 209a. With the graduation between Bad Fallingbostel and Soltau on July 1, 1989, the motorway feeder became the direct route of the B 209. However, it is still kilometered separately today.
