Rohrsen is a municipality in the combined municipality of Heemsen , Nienburg / Weser district ; Lower Saxony . Rohrsen is the seat of the joint municipality administration.

history

The community lies on the banks of the Weser. Due to the reed growth, the hooves were called "Rohrsen" (a combination of "Rohr" and "Hausen") from an early age. Originally the community was part of the County of Wölpe . It was first mentioned in a document in 1302, when the community was sold to the Duke of Braunschweig, Otto the Strenge .

In the Thirty Years' War, from 1640, entrenchments were raised near Rohrsen to monitor ship traffic across the Weser and manned with musketeers. Some of the jumps can still be visited today and are located directly on the Weser cycle path . Between 1675 and 1679 the Alte Schanze was again equipped with guns by Prince Johann Friedrich of Calenberg because of the conflict with the Swedes. Before 1740 the Neue Schanze, which was strategically located more favorably than the Alte Schanze, and the Balger Schanze on the opposite side were dismantled.

The shallows of the Weser were the cause of several ship accidents. In 1998 a wooden barge with Obernkirchen sandstones was recovered. This shipwreck from the second half of the 18th century can be viewed in the Weser Renaissance Museum in Brake near Lemgo .

During the Second World War there was a prisoner of war camp in Rohrsen.

The local council has 9 elected members, and since the local elections on September 11, 2016 , it has consisted of two parties and a community of voters.

Public facilities

The renovated "old school" offers the Rohrsen clubs space for their activities. This includes a shooting range and a rehearsal room for the marching band. Family celebrations can also be held there by prior arrangement.

In the northern part of the municipality of Rohrsen there is the performance testing institute for pigs, an institution of the Lower Saxony Chamber of Agriculture. A boar insemination station is also located there.

Rohrsen is on the federal road 209 (direction Walsrode ), which joins the federal road 215 to Verden (Aller) and Nienburg / Weser . The Bremen – Hanover railway runs through the community together with the Weser-Aller railway . There has been a train station there since 1847, which, after local passenger traffic was discontinued in 1978 and freight traffic in 1990, is only used as a depot .
