history

Place name

Old names of the place are Higermissen, Hilegermissen, Hilghermissen, Hildermissen, Hilghermyssen, Hylgermisszen, Hilligermissen, Hilgermessen and Hilgermisse.

Regarding the origin of the name, it is assumed that the name is derived from a corrupted "Hild-grim-es-husen", which in turn etymologically means "home of Hildgrim". The proper name Hildgrim is made up of the Old High German "Hild" ( fight ) and "grim" ( mask ).

Incorporations

As part of the regional reform in Lower Saxony , the new municipality of Hilgermissen was formed on March 1, 1974 through the merger of the eight municipalities of Eitzendorf, Heesen, Hilgermissen, Magelsen, Mehringen, Ubbendorf, Wechold and Wienbergen.

coat of arms

The municipal coat of arms of the municipality of Hilgermissen was designed by the heraldist Heinz Bannier (* December 12, 1912, † August 26, 1999; he led the Lower Saxony coat of arms from 1983 to 1991). The coat of arms was approved on January 9, 1984 by the Nienburg / Weser district.

Hilgermissen coat of arms
Blazon : "Under a golden shield head with centrally arranged black tips in blue , over a lowered golden wavy bar two golden horses that face each other in such a way that their bodies partially cover each other."
Justification of the coat of arms: In the coat of arms book of the district of Nienburg / Weser it says:

“The three upright peaks in the head of the shield symbolically represent the three churches of the Hilgermissen community, namely Eitzendorf, Magelsen and Wechold. The tinging in gold and black makes historical reference to the coat of arms colors of the Counts of Hoya , to whose county the communities belonged. The gold horses on the blue sign indicate the farming, horse breeding and riding of the community. The eight legs are supposed to symbolize the eight districts of the community. The golden horses face each other in such a way that the heads and necks form the well-known Lower Saxony symbol on farmhouses, the gable boards with the horse heads turned outwards. The blue refers to the waters and lakes of the municipality, especially the Weser and Alveser See . The golden wave bar symbolizes the Weser, which forms the eastern border of the Hilgermissen community. "
