The St. Lamberti Church is an Evangelical Lutheran town church in Bergen in the district of Celle . The parish belongs to the Soltau parish in the Lüneburg district of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Hanover .

It is not known exactly when a church first stood here. The parish of Bergen is probably one of the old parish of the 9th century. The first written mention of the parish (parrochia mountains) comes from the year 1197. It is known that in 1631 the dilapidated tower of the church had to be renewed. In 1728 a wooden bell tower was built next to the church. In 1736 the old church tower was torn down and replaced by a new one in 1750.

The current classical hall church was built in 1826/27. It is a three-aisled building with lowered ceilings over the galleries, which was extended to the east in 1900. In 1880/81 the church tower had to be renewed. It has been preserved to this day. Around 1900 the wooden barrel ceiling in the central nave was provided with an ornamental stencil painting, which was removed again during the renovation of the church in 1956. During the same construction project, the ceiling was masked with a textile fabric to prevent cracking. The last extensive renovation work (interior and exterior renovation) took place in 1981/82.

On the outer facade of the church building you can still find old grave slabs - some from the 17th century .

Pastors

From 1872 to 1881, Ludwig Otto Adelbert Spitta (born November 27, 1845 in Wechold , † May 27, 1901 in Hameln ), a son of the German theologian and poet Carl Johann Philipp Spitta, was pastor . He became famous here for his sermons with historical, local and regional histories, which were also published as a book with sermons and lectures given in 1875.

In 1828 the first organ was installed in the Lambertikirche , built by the organ builder Johann Heinrich Christian Friedrich Lohstöder (Celle). The instrument had 22 registers on two manuals and a pedal . In 1914 the organ building company Furtwängler and Hammer (Arnum) built a new organ in the historic case with 34 registers on two manuals and pedal. After a few modifications and extensions, the instrument was last rebuilt by the organ building company Manufacture d'Orgues Muhleisen in Strasbourg . Today it has 35 stops on two manuals and a pedal. The game actions and stop actions are mechanical.

Peal

The oldest bell (Dreikönigsglocke) dates from around 1500 and is located in its own roof turret. The rest of the bells (two steel bells in the bell tower are preserved) received an electric bell in 1976 from Herford's Bokelmann & Kuhlo electricity works.
