geography

Geographical location

Heemsen is located between the Wildeshauser Geest Nature Park and the Steinhuder Meer Nature Park, roughly halfway between Bremen and Hanover on the Weser . The Wölpe flows through the municipality . To the east lies the Lichtenmoor . The municipality belongs to the Heemsen municipality , which has its administrative seat in the Rohrsen municipality .

history

Heemsen was first mentioned in a document in 1096. In the municipality there are the remains of two ramparts . The Andertenburg , which controlled the Reichsweg between the Mittelweser region in the direction of Fallingbostel , was located near the town of Anderten . About one kilometer southeast of the town of Heemsen on the road to Steimbke are the remains of the Brunsburg , some of which are still preserved, in a formerly swampy area . Excavations from 1907 in the main castle suggest that it was built in the 9th century.

Religions

The Evangelical Lutheran St. Michaelis parish in Heemsen was merged with the St. Johannis parish in Drakenburg on February 1, 2012 to form the Evangelical Lutheran parish Drakenburg-Heemsen.

Incorporations

The places Anderten and Gadesbünden were incorporated on March 1, 1974.

In the current municipal election period (2016-2021) Heinrich Heidorn is the honorary mayor of the Heemsen community. Friedrich-Wilhelm Koop was elected full-time mayor of the combined community of Heemsen.
