Lichtenmoor (Heemsen)

Lichtenmoor is a district of the municipality of Heemsen ( Samtgemeinde Heemsen ) in the district of Nienburg / Weser ( Lower Saxony ). The place is located in the Lichtenmoor of the same name . Less than 100 inhabitants live in the village, who are mainly employed in agriculture.

The district road 36 connects the place with Heemsen in the west and Lichtenhorst in the east.

The first attempts to settle on the edge of the Lichtenmoor took place in 1780. From 1859 this colony belonged to the municipality of Heemsen and partly also to the former municipality of Gadesbünden , which is now also part of the municipality of Heemsen.

Peat is extracted in and in the Lichtenmoor . From 1969 to 1992, the combat position of the 2nd squadron of the anti-aircraft missile squadron 35 was in the moorland. The protests culminated here in 1976 when (the) Lichtenmoor with its underground salt dome came into consideration as a nuclear waste repository.
