geography

The Weser flows along the western border of the municipality .

Joint community structure

The integrated community is made up of the communities Drakenburg , Haßbergen , Rohrsen and Heemsen with its districts Anderten , Gadesbünden and Lichtenmoor . The seat of the municipality administration is Rohrsen.

history

The integrated community was created on June 1, 1969 due to the Lower Saxony regional reform.

On March 1, 1974, the integrated community consisting of the communities Anderten, Gadesbünden and Heemsen was dissolved and immediately expanded to include the communities Drakenburg, Haßbergen and Rohrsen.

Community partnerships

A partnership with the Communauté de communes du Véron ( Département Indre-et-Loire in France ) existed from 1981 until its dissolution at the end of 2013 . The community was initially integrated into the larger Communauté de communes Chinon, Vienne et Loire , with which the combined community of Heemsen has continued the partnership since then.

Economy and Infrastructure

The municipality of Heemsen is one of the largest asparagus growing areas in Europe .

In terms of transport, the entire municipality is opened up by federal highways 209 and 215 , and there has been no rail connection to the Hanover - Bremen line since 1978.
