The communities of Marklohe , Wietzen and Balge have joined forces in the joint municipality of Marklohe in the Lower Saxony district of Nienburg / Weser to handle their administrative business. There is also an administrative cooperation with the municipality of Steyerberg and the joint municipality of Liebenau in the form of the “Linkes Weserufer” association . The administrative seat of the joint municipality is in the municipality of Marklohe, in the village of Lemke.

Inge Bast-Kemmerer has been the full-time mayor of the joint municipality since March 17, 2016. In the last mayoral election on March 6, 2016, she was elected from an opposing candidate with 68.13% of the vote. The turnout was 51.7%.
