In the joint community of Mittelweser from the Lower Saxony district of Nienburg / Weser , five communities have come together to handle their administrative business. The administrative seat is Stolzenau , in Landesbergen there is a branch office with a citizens' office.

The joint community was created on November 1, 2011 from the merger of the joint community of Landesbergen and the community-free community of Stolzenau.

The joint municipal council election on September 11, 2016 led to the following distribution of seats:
- CDU : 12 seats
- SPD : 13 seats
- WG Mittelweser : 3 seats
- GREEN : 2 seats
- Pirates : 1 seat
- FDP : 1 seat
Joint mayor of the municipality
Bernd Müller has been the mayor of the municipality since November 1, 2011. In the mayoral election on September 11, 2016, he did not run again. Jens Beckmeyer (SPD) was the only applicant to be elected mayor of the municipality with 79.0 percent of the vote.
