history
Estorf was first mentioned in a deed of gift dated February 9, 1096. In this document, Countess Meresvid von Stumpenhausen transferred, among other things, a preliminary work called "Aesdorpe" to the Minden church. According to excavations from 1977, however, it can be assumed that as early as 550 the current location was permanently inhabited.
The two great aristocratic families, von Freytag and the more famous von Münchhausen , had a significant influence in the Middle Ages . The latter parted from their Estorfer estates by 1413, while the von Freytag still manage their estate today .
During the Thirty Years' War the residents of Estorf built barns, the so-called Schünebusch, hidden in the forest to protect their crops from wandering mercenaries. This place attracts many bicycle tourists these days with its newly renovated barns, in which, among other things, historical baking days are regularly held .
On March 1, 1974, the main part of the dissolved community Leeseringen was incorporated.
