Jewish Cemetery

The Jewish cemetery is located in a wooded area and in 1714 was not only used as a burial place for the Hoya synagogue community . The last burial took place in January 1941. In March 1945 the cemetery was badly devastated and many of the old tombstones were stolen and / or destroyed. The 180 remaining stones with their artistically executed ornaments and the individually designed Hebrew inscriptions indicate the cultural and historical importance of the Hoyerhäger Jewish cemetery.

Memsen domain

The Memsen domain, located in the southwestern part of the municipality of Hoyerhagen, was first mentioned in a document in 987 and was the property of the Bücken Collegiate Foundation . Later it was a Vorwerk of the Counts of Hoya , who used it as a stud for work horses until 1582 . After the Hoya Counts died out, the Dukes of Braunschweig-Lüneburg took over the estate. One of the stables preserved today dates from this period (1653). The Memsen domain experienced its heyday in the 18th and 19th centuries with the breeding of white borns - gray horses that are born white and do not change color. These horses were used exclusively as draft horses and riding horses for the kings of Great Britain and electors of Hanover . With the end of the personal union , the stud was closed. The Memsen domain, which today belongs to the state of Lower Saxony , has been part of the German Veterinary Cooperative Association since 1949. G. (WDT) leased. The WDT uses the domain as a serum plant (90 horses) and agricultural operation (185.4 hectares). In the Memsen there is also a forest district for the Lower Saxony State Forests .
