The Hämelsee is a still water in the municipality of Heemsen in the municipality of the same name in the district of Nienburg / Weser in Lower Saxony .

The lake, which is about 310 meters long and about 240 meters wide, is located northeast of the core town of Heemsen on the north-running county road K 147. It is north and west of the B 209 and southeast of Hämelhausen . The B 215 and the Weser run to the west .

The Hämelsee is a sinkhole lake on the northwestern edge of the Lichtenhorst salt dome , which explains its 8 meter depth in an almost completely flat area. The pollen that has been preserved in the slowly sinking subsoil from the last 20,000 years makes it possible to reconstruct the local vegetation and climate development since the end of the last glacial period, the Vistula glacial period , around 11,000 years ago. The deposits in the Hämelsee provide also a link between the findings from northern Germany and from the Rhine. The lake is surrounded by older, wound extending flow channels which the running direction of Meerbach (Steinhude Bach) north of Nienburg (Weser) northeast to Aller continue towards . The outflow of the lake, the Hämelseegraben, also runs in such a channel.

In the area around the Hämelsee there is a campsite with an attached holiday home area in the adjacent forest. The lake is a popular recreational area for the entire region.
