The national highway 231 (abbreviation: B 231 ) is a federal road in North Rhine-Westphalia . It leads from Oberhausen to Essen . The section between the B 8 in Duisburg and the intersection with the B 223 in Oberhausen was phased out at the beginning of 2007.

course

The B 231 begins at the Oberhausen Gasometer , where it is connected to the B 223 and leads as Essener Straße (Oberhausener Stadtgebiet), Frintroper Straße ( Borbeck district ) and Altendorfer Straße to Hans-Böckler-Straße in the Westviertel, where it connects to the B 224 exists. Until the end of 2006, the route led via Oberhausen- Alstaden and Duisburg- Dümpten to Grunewald , where there was a connection to the B8. This section has been graduated and is called Landesstraße 1

Shared use by trams

Between the junction with the B 224 in Essen and the Essen / Oberhausen city limits, the Essen - Essen-Frintrop tram line operated by Essener Verkehrs-AG runs flush with the B 231. Its entire route is connected to the Essen tramway by tram 105 and from the Other tram lines drive at the junction of Fly Busch and Helenenstraße . With the planned extension of line 105, the tram route on the B 231 in the Oberhausen city area will be extended by a few 100 meters to the intersection with Mellinghofer Straße . This expansion was initially stopped on March 8, 2015 by a decision of the citizens of the council with 57 percent no votes, but the extension of tram line 105 from Essen-Frintrop to the Centro from the cities of Essen and Oberhausen was renewed at the end of November 2015 registered in the public transport requirement plan of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, which applies from 2017 to 2030, and included in it. This means that from 2017 it will be possible to establish the tram connection between Essen and Oberhausen in the period up to 2030.
