Route to Mülheim (Ruhr) 112

The Oberhausen local traffic route, known as the Oberhausen public transport route , was partially built on the disused routes of the HOAG ( Hüttenwerke Oberhausen AG ) industrial railways and other companies in the coal and steel industry .

In the course of the new construction of Centr O in the Neue Mitte on a former ironworks site , a new tram and bus route was built in 1996 . In addition to a number of bus routes, the tram, which was introduced on June 2, 1996, runs from Mülheim an der Ruhr via Oberhausen Hbf to Sterkrade station . At the end of October 2004, this line was extended by an 800 m long section to Sterkrader Neumarkt, which can also be used by regular buses in the direction of Sterkrade train station.

The public transport route is the backbone of the local transport operated by STOAG in Oberhausen . Other lines usually serve as feeders to the route, on which buses or trains run at frequent intervals. The route is largely free of intersections; only at the MAN TURBO stop (formerly Presswerk) in southern Sterkrade does it cross a street, controlled by light signals.

The expansion of the service associated with the opening of the route in 1996 resulted in an increase in passenger numbers of around 50% across the city.

Tram to Essen 105

  2. Alternative planning name: Metronom Theater

Line 105 of the Essen tram ends at the city limits near Essen-Frintrop . This city limit, and with it the Unterstraße terminus, are just under 2 km as the crow flies from the Centro and the Oberhausen public transport route. In the Essen city area, in turn, line 105 leads straight as a dead straight to the B 231 in the direction of Essen - Frintrop , - Bedingrade , - Schönebeck , - Altendorf into Essen city center and via this southwest to the Südviertel , Bergerhausen and Rellinghausen . It thus forms an axis through Essen about 20 km long. Due to the short distance between this 20 km long tram line to the Centro and the public transport route, there were repeated plans to extend line 105 beyond the city limits near Essen-Frintrop to Oberhausen in order to close the networks of Essen and Oberhausen connect to.

In earlier plans, it was planned not to merge into the Oberhausen public transport route, but rather to lead the new route of line 105 four kilometers further via Duisburger, Concordia, Friedrich-Karl and Poststrasse to Oberhausen main station and on to Wörthstrasse, in order to do so to better develop the Alt-Oberhausen city center by tram. In 2001, in connection with the “Zukunftspark O.Vision” project, it was announced that line 105 would be extended to the former steelworks site on Osterfelder Strasse, where the disused production hall was to be transformed into a “breathtaking public transport station”. However, these plans could not be realized because the O.Vision project failed again.

According to the last plans, line 105 should continue to about Mellinghofer Straße on the B 231 and then via a new public transport route to be built in an elevated position at the UMSICHT over the former steelworks and at the Metronom Theater , the marina and the Sea-Life- Aquarium should be threaded through the eastern New Center into the existing public transport route between Sterkrade and Oberhausen Hauptbahnhof. In doing so, Osterfelder Strasse, the very busy main feeder road from Neue Mitte, and the B 231 to the A 42 in the form of this high altitude should be crossed at no height. The eastern New Center currently does not have an attractive connection to Sterkrade and the main train station or to Essen. This new line should cost a total of 80 million euros (as of early 2015), but most of it would have been paid from state subsidies. This expansion was intended to connect the local transport networks of Oberhausen and Essen directly with one another. On the Essen side, the tram runs over the B 231 at the Helenenstraße junction into Essen city center , where it approaches the main train station in a tunnel , and beyond that via the Essen southern district to Essen-Rellinghausen . In addition to the main train station, it also serves the Thyssen-Krupp-Quartier in Essen city center as well as the Berliner Platz subway stations with exit to the university , Limbecker Platz shopping center and the Colosseum Theater , Rheinischer Platz with exit to the GOP Varieté-Theater , Essen Town Hall , as well south of the main station the Aalto-Theater . Via the B 231 it opens up Essen-Frintrop, Essen-Schönebeck , Essen-Borbeck Süd Bf and Essen-Altendorf . These plans should be implemented by 2018. From the Gasometer stop, line 105 should run alternately to the main station and Sterkrade every 20 minutes.

The last planned extension of the tram line was presented as an important investment project for the western Ruhr area. An action alliance “Say yes to line 105” was founded, which was supposed to convince the citizens of the city of Oberhausen with sole voting rights to vote for closing the gap.

On March 8, 2015, however, the projected extension of the 105 was rejected in a council decision with a result of 43% yes to 57% no and a voter turnout of 23%. This means that this infrastructure project will not be implemented for the time being and the tram will continue to end in Essen-Frintrop.

In November 2015, the measure to extend tram line 105 from Essen-Frintrop to the Centro from the cities of Essen and Oberhausen was registered in the public transport requirement plan of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, which is valid from 2017 to 2030, and included in it. This means that from 2017 it will be possible to implement the tram connection between Essen and Oberhausen in the period up to 2030.

This tram line was originally supposed to continue to be built to Oberhausen- Schmachtendorf . This project was stopped for the time being due to public protests against the tram.

This is also an extension of the local public transport route, as the tram line on the railway line to Holten station would run on an independent track.

The Neumarkt stop was to be relocated from the street to the new line of the route.
