Falkenstein / Harz is a town in the Harz district in Saxony-Anhalt (Germany). The city was formed on January 1, 2002 through the merger of the formerly independent city of Ermsleben with the previously independent communities of Endorf , Meisdorf , Neuplatendorf , Pansfelde , Reinstedt and Wieserode and was in the Aschersleben-Staßfurt district until July 1, 2007 .
geography
The city, whose name was based on the Falkenstein Castle , is located on the northeastern edge of the Harz Mountains and extends from the narrow Selketal in the Harz Mountains over the upper valleys of some of the Eine tributaries ( Leine, Schwennecke ) to the flatter area of the northern Harz foreland. Falkenstein / Harz is on the Romanesque Road . Until June 30, 2007, the city of Falkenstein / Harz was assigned to the dissolved district of Aschersleben-Staßfurt .
Falkenstein / Harz is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Seeland in the north, Aschersleben in the northeast, Arnstein in the southeast and south, Harzgerode in the southwest and Ballenstedt in the west.

The federal highway 185 from Ballenstedt to Aschersleben crosses the central district of Ermsleben. From Hoym via Ermsleben, Meisdorf and Pansfelde a country road leads to the federal highway 242 (Klausstraße) and to Wippra in the Lower Harz. The stations in Meisdof, Ermsleben and Reinstedt are on the former Frose – Quedlinburg railway line . All places are connected with each other by bus lines of the Harzer Verkehrsbetriebe .
