About this picture

The district of Aschersleben-Staßfurt was a district in the middle of the federal state of Saxony-Anhalt . On July 1, 2007, it was absorbed into the new districts of Harz ( municipality of Falkenstein / Harz ) and Salzlandkreis as part of the district reform in Saxony-Anhalt . Neighboring districts were the Bördekreis in the north, the Schönebeck and Bernburg districts in the east, the Mansfelder Land district in the south and the Quedlinburg district in the west .

geography

The area of the former district of Aschersleben-Staßfurt lay between the Harz and Magdeburg Börde . The rivers Bode and Wipper were among the larger rivers in the district .

traffic

The federal motorway 14 ran through the district , where Staßfurt had a motorway exit . In addition, the federal highways 6 and 6n , 81 , 180 and 185 crossed the district. The Hanover - Halle (Saale) , Magdeburg - Erfurt , Aschersleben - Dessau and Magdeburg - Aschersleben railways also crossed the district.

history

The district of Aschersleben-Staßfurt was formed by the district reform in Saxony-Anhalt on July 1, 1994, initially as Aschersleben-Staßfurt district from the two former districts of Aschersleben and Staßfurt . The formation of the district was politically enforced regardless of the centuries-old different regional history of the individual parts of the area. The district of Aschersleben-Staßfurt comprised parts of the former Free State of Anhalt with the small towns Leopoldshall (now part of Staßfurt ), Güsten , Hecklingen , parts of the southern Magdeburg Börde with the small towns of Egeln (formerly Wanzleben district ) and Cochstedt (formerly Quedlinburg district ), parts of the former Mansfeld mountain district with the small town of Ermsleben (today Falkenstein / Harz ) and the towns of Aschersleben and Staßfurt. The latter belonged to the district of Calbe in the administrative district of Magdeburg of the Prussian province of Saxony until 1947 . The two districts of Aschersleben and Staßfurt were formed in 1952, regardless of previous regional history, when the government of the GDR dissolved the states, increased the number of districts and established 14 districts . The Aschersleben district belonged to the Halle district from 1952 to 1990 , and the Staßfurt district to the Magdeburg district .

District reform

Logo of the citizens' initiative "Pro Harz"

During the district reform in 2007, the Aschersleben-Staßfurt district was merged with the Schönebeck district and the Bernburg district to form the new Salzlandkreis . Bernburg (Saale) became the capital of the newly formed district .

On August 28, 2005, initiated by the citizens' initiative "Pro resin" took referendum instead. This had collected 8,000 signatures and thus obtained the first referendum at the district level in Saxony-Anhalt . The reason for this was the fact that a considerable part of the citizens (especially in the former Altkreis Aschersleben) were against the merger with Bernburg and Schönebeck and instead favored a merger in the direction of the Harz Mountains.

It should be agreed whether the cities and communities of the Aschersleben-Staßfurt district should become part of a new district to be formed in the course of the district reform, or whether the decision of principle of the district council to form a new district with the current districts of Bernburg and Schönebeck (Salzlandkreis ) is maintained. The district council had refused to listen to the citizens on this point.

In this referendum, 60.38% of the voters voted for the Harz district, 39.62% against (turnout 39.9%). This means that the 20,900 yes votes necessary for a successful referendum (corresponds to 25% of all eligible voters) were only missed by 879 votes (23.9% approval based on all eligible voters). Especially in the old district of Aschersleben, approval of the Harz district (up to 95%) and voter turnout (up to 70%) was very high. In the Staßfurt area, voter turnout was considerably lower, but similarly high numbers of no votes were recorded. The reason for these no votes was essentially the historical ties between the Staßfurt region and the Elbe-Saale-Salzland region.

Only the city of Falkenstein / Harz changed to the newly formed district of Harz during the merger .

License Plate

On July 1, 1994, the district was assigned the ASL , which has been valid since January 1, 1991 for the Aschersleben district. It was issued through June 30, 2007. It has been available in the Salzlandkreis since November 27, 2012.

Until about the year 2000 vehicles from the old district of Staßfurt received license plates with the letter pairs AA to ZZ and the numbers from 100 to 999.
