Thomas Leimbach

Thomas Leimbach (born October 19, 1960 in Osnabrück ) was an administrative officer and is a politician ( CDU ). From 1992 to 2002 he was District Administrator of the Aschersleben and Aschersleben-Staßfurt districts and from 2004 to 2011 President of the State Administration of Saxony-Anhalt . From 2011 to 2016 he was a member of the state parliament of Saxony-Anhalt .

Life and work

Leimbach graduated from school in 1981 with the Abitur. He studied law and economics in Osnabrück and Göttingen and passed his first state examination in law in 1989 . After completing his legal traineeship and continuing his studies at the University of Administrative Sciences in Speyer , he completed his training in 1992 with the second state examination with distinction .

From 1992 to 1994 Leimbach was district administrator in the Aschersleben district , then until 2002 district administrator in the Aschersleben-Staßfurt district . During this time he also sat on the supervisory boards of Verkehrsgesellschaft Südharz and various business development and ABM companies, was a member of the constitutional and European committee of the German district assembly and the administrative board of the Sangerhausen employment office .

From 2002 he was head of the development staff for the new state administration office of Saxony-Anhalt and during the merger he held the offices of regional presidents in Halle (Saale) , Magdeburg and Dessau until they were merged in the state administration office in 2004, of which Leimbach became president. He stayed in office until he moved into the state parliament in April 2011.

Among other things, he volunteered as chairman of the board of Schloss Hoym e. V., from 2003 as a member of the Board of Trustees of the Dessau-Wörlitz Cultural Foundation , the Regional Forum Halle , the Regional Forum Central Germany , the Neo Rauch Graphic Foundation and the Friends of Humboldt-Schloss Burgörner Hettstedt . He was also co-editor of the legal journal Landes- und Kommunalverwaltung .

He is married and has two children.

Party offices and parliamentary activities

Leimbach joined the Junge Union in 1980 and has been a member of the CDU since 1992. In 1996 he became a member of the state board of the CDU Saxony-Anhalt , from 1998 to 2012 he was deputy CDU state chairman.

In the state elections in Saxony-Anhalt on March 20, 2011 , Leimbach ran as a direct candidate for the CDU in constituency 32 ( Hettstedt ). Despite a significant loss of 11.8% compared to the result of his predecessor Petra Wernicke from 2006, he was able to win the constituency with 31.6% of the first votes, just ahead of Stefan Gebhardt from the party Die Linke for the CDU. As a member of the Saxony-Anhalt state parliament , he was a member of the environmental committee and chairman of the 14th parliamentary committee of inquiry of the state parliament of Saxony-Anhalt.

Due to a redesign of the constituencies in Saxony-Anhalt, the constituency of Hettstedt was divided among the neighboring constituencies. Thus, Leimbach did not run for the state parliament again in 2016.

Leimbach has been chairman of the city council of the city of Aschersleben since July 2014. Since December 2015 he has been chairman of the district council of the Salzlandkreis.
