The Jakobsweg Salzburg is an almost 100 kilometer long section of the Jakobsweg Austria, signposted since 2005, and part of the Jakobsweg network in Austria .

The route runs through the Flachgau ( Salzburg-Umgebung district ), the City of Salzburg , the Bad Reichenhall district and the Pinzgau ( Zell am See district ).

description

The Jakobsweg Austria leaves the federal state of Upper Austria near Oberhofen am Irrsee , leads in the federal state Salzburg first along the Wallersee , past Henndorf to Eugendorf , where the Jakobsweg joins the Innviertel , and then via Hallwang and Maria Plain into the city of Salzburg to the Salzburg Cathedral and the monastery Saint Peter .

From the city of Salzburg, the Way of St. James runs via Leopoldskron , Gois in the municipality of Wals-Siezenheim (Gothic Jakobskirchlein), Marzoll and Großgmain in the Bad Reichenhall district (small German corner) in Bavaria in the Saalachtal , past Bad Reichenhall with the former Augustinian canon in Sankt Zeno and Schneizlreuth to Unken (baroque Jakobskirche) and Lofer and over the Strub pass to Waidring in the Kitzbühel district in Tyrol , where the Jakobsweg Tirol continues the Jakobsweg Austria.

The route from Unken to Lofer is one of the most beautiful sections of the Way of St. James in Austria. The pilgrimage church Maria Kirchental is located in Sankt Martin bei Lofer .

Project

The signage took place in 2005 as part of a joint project between tourism and the church in Salzburg and Bavaria and was funded by the tourism department of the State of Salzburg and with INTERREG funding from the EU as well as by the neighboring parishes, communities, local tourism associations and the SalzburgerLand Tourismus Gesellschaft . The uniform marking symbols contain the scallop shell on a yellow-blue background.
