Oberhofen am Irrsee is a municipality in Upper Austria in the Vöcklabruck district in the Hausruckviertel with 1692 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2020). The municipality is located in the judicial district of Vöcklabruck since the judicial district of Mondsee was dissolved on July 1, 2013.

Oberhofen is located in the Hausruckviertel on the Irrsee at an altitude of 500 m.
The extension is 6 km from north to south and 6.7 km from west to east. The total area is 21.16 km², 34% of the area is forested, 59% of the area is used for agriculture.

history
Originally located in the eastern part of the Duchy of Bavaria , the place belonged to the Duchy of Austria since the 12th century . Since 1490 it has been assigned to the Principality of Austria ob der Enns . During the Napoleonic Wars , the place was occupied several times.
In 1784 the place got its own parish.
After the revolution of 1848/49 , the local community of Rabenschwand was created here on January 1, 1851 . With the opening of the Empress Elisabeth Railway in 1860, the station became more and more important, and on January 1, 1864, the community was renamed after the parish on Oberhofen .
Since 1918 the place belongs to the federal state of Upper Austria . After the annexation of Austria to the German Reich on March 13, 1938, the place belonged to the Gau Oberdonau . In 1945 Upper Austria was restored.
Population development
In 1991 the community had 1145 inhabitants according to the census, in 2001 it had 1335 inhabitants.

The municipality colors are green-white-blue.
The municipal coat of arms was awarded in 1979. The depicted rare curlew breeds only in a few places in Upper Austria, including in the north moor at Irrsee .

Oberhofen is a member of the LEADER region Mondseeland (REGMO) and the tourism region Mondseeland - Mondsee / Irrsee as part of the Salzkammergut .
